How Stockholm tech companies interview, 9 loops compared
Google, Spotify, Klarna, King, Ericsson, EA DICE, Paradox, Lovable and Legora, side by side: what stands between your application and an engineer's hour, how many stages follow, which round each loop goes deepest on, how long it takes, and what a senior engineer earns at each. Compiled from the companies' own hiring pages, candidate reports and Levels.fyi in September 2026, by a company built in Stockholm.

The 9 loops side by side
One row per employer, one guide behind eachThe loop column and the round each loop goes deepest on are read from the company guides themselves, so this table cannot disagree with the page it links to. The gate is what a candidate must pass before an engineer spends an hour on them, which turns out to be the most useful single fact about a Stockholm loop.
| Employer | The gate | Loop | Goes deepest on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Stockholm | Technical phone screen, one or two rounds; an online assessment for L3 and new grads | 5–6 stages | Coding, then the committee |
| Spotify | Technical screen: CoderPad, an online assessment, or a take-home for new grads | 4–5 stages | The case study |
| Klarna | Timed abstract reasoning test, 12–15 min, before anyone speaks to you | 5–6 stages | The skills round |
| King | Take-home, about ten hours, then a code review of it | 5–6 stages | Homework, then fit |
| Ericsson | Online test for some roles; otherwise the manager round | 3–5 stages | The manager round |
| EA DICE | Home assignment, about twenty hours of C++, then three senior developers question it | 4–5 stages | The home assignment |
| Paradox Interactive | A test under NDA for many roles; a code review round for programmers | 3–5 stages | The test |
| Lovable | Two technical rounds of live exercises, then a trial day in the codebase | Calls, code, a trial day | What you built |
| Legora | Six-hour take-home build on a fixed stack, then a review | 4–5 stages | The build |
Every row links to a round-by-round guide with its sources. Time to offer and the Glassdoor scores are in the table under “How long it takes”.
Homework before whiteboards
6 of 9 gate on something you buildThe pattern that separates Stockholm from the loops most preparation is written for: 6 of the 9 employers here ask you to build something before they spend interview hours on you, and then spend those hours reviewing what you built. King sends a take-home of about ten hours, a small match-3 game in C++ on the engine it provides, and follows it with a code review by a principal engineer. DICE sends about twenty hours of C++ with performance constraints and has three senior developers question every decision in it until you run out of answers. Paradox sends a test under NDA and, for programmers, a set of code to find the problems in. Legora sends a six-hour build, an end-to-end chat application on a fixed stack, reviewed with the team. Lovable runs two rounds of live exercises and then a trial day in the codebase with a buddy from the team. What is graded is readability, structure and judgment, and the technical interview is a conversation about your own code rather than a blank page.
Google and Spotify are the exceptions and run the shape a FAANG candidate would recognise: a coding screen, then an onsite of four to five rounds of coding, system design and a behavioural conversation, about 45 minutes to an hour each; Google adds a hiring committee and team matching after, Spotify a production case study inside. Klarna is the other kind of exception: it gates on a timed abstract reasoning test of twelve to fifteen minutes before a recruiter calls, and candidates report that failing it ends the process whatever the CV says. Ericsson has no company-wide bar at all; the manager round is set by the team, which in Kista usually means fundamentals in the team's language and the 5G or cloud product it owns.
Two things follow for preparation. Hours spent on algorithm puzzles are mostly wasted outside Spotify and Klarna's coding assessment; hours spent making a small codebase readable, and rehearsing why you structured it that way, are the ones that decide King, Legora and Lovable. And the people rounds carry more weight than the round count suggests: every loop here ends in a culture, values, team or founder conversation, and Swedish consensus hiring means those conversations are votes.
How long it takes
One week to three months| Employer | Time to offer, reported | Glassdoor difficulty · positive |
|---|---|---|
| Google Stockholm | 6–12 weeks, team match included | Global loop; no Stockholm score |
| Spotify | 2–5 weeks | 3.1 / 5 · 46% positive |
| Klarna | 6–12 weeks | 3.0 / 5 · 39% positive |
| King | 2–8 weeks, about 6 on average | ~3 / 5 · under half positive |
| Ericsson | About 21 days on average | 2.8 / 5 · 70% positive |
| EA DICE | About 54 days on average | 3.0 / 5 · 73% positive |
| Paradox Interactive | About 47 days on average | 2.9 / 5 · 48% positive |
| Lovable | 1–2 weeks | Too few reports |
| Legora | 2–4 weeks | Too few reports |
Google is six to twelve weeks with team matching, the stage that stretches in a small office. Lovable is reported at one to two weeks from first call to offer, and its guide describes a founder call that turns into a live TypeScript walkthrough on the spot. Ericsson averages about 21 days on Glassdoor. Spotify runs two to five weeks, Legora two to four. King averages about six weeks with a range from two to eight in candidate accounts, most of it the take-home and the scheduling of three or four studio interviews; DICE and Paradox average 54 and 47 days. Klarna is the long one at six to twelve weeks reported, with the logic test and coding assessment fast and the skills and team rounds slow to schedule.
Glassdoor figures are the difficulty score out of five and the share of candidates who called the experience positive, read in September 2026; Lovable and Legora have too few reports to score.
Two Swedish constants sit under those numbers. July is written off: most hiring managers take four weeks of the statutory five, and a loop that reaches the team round in late June resumes in August. And offers are consensus decisions, so a loop that looks like five rounds on paper waits for several people to agree at the end. If you are interviewing while employed, the guide to doing so discreetly and the one to a Stockholm office closing both work back from the calendar for this reason.
What each one pays a senior engineer
Levels.fyi medians, September 2026| Employer | Senior, median total pay | Guide headline |
|---|---|---|
| Google Stockholm | SEK 1.72M (L5) | SEK 1.72M |
| Spotify | SEK 1.17M | SEK 1.16M |
| Klarna | SEK 758K | SEK 758K |
| King | SEK 743K, base | SEK 743K |
| Ericsson | SEK 730K (JS7) | SEK 730K |
| EA DICE | SEK 1.17M (SE 3) | SEK 831K |
| Paradox Interactive | SEK 742–844K, common range | SEK 742–844K |
| Lovable | SEK 1.62M | SEK 1.62M |
| Legora | Not published | Not published |
The same senior title reports SEK 1.72M at Google, SEK 1.17M at Spotify and about SEK 730K at Ericsson, and the gap is stock: Google pays SEK 644K a year of it at L5, Spotify SEK 185K at senior, Ericsson under SEK 10K. Klarna and King sit between on base alone. Lovable's SEK 1.62M rests on few reports and a heavy equity share; Legora publishes nothing, and its guide says to ask for the cash number and the strike price separately. The Stockholm software engineer salary page has the full ladders by level, what lands after Stockholm tax, and why the Swedish ladder is flatter than London's.
The market in 2026
Cuts and hiring, in the same city, at the same timeThe cuts made the headlines. Ericsson announced around 1,600 role reductions in Sweden in January 2026, more than twelve percent of its Swedish workforce; Klarna, Stockholm's largest private tech employer at about 3,800 people, made a second round of cuts in 2026, mostly in operational and administrative roles, while it kept hiring engineers for AI work. Volvo Cars is closing its Stockholm office in March 2027.
The hiring is happening alongside. Google, Microsoft (through King and Mojang) and AWS run Stockholm offices on their global ladders. Dealroom counts 38 of Sweden's 58 unicorns in Stockholm; Lovable passed a $500 million revenue run rate by June 2026 and Legora has said it plans to grow from 700 people to 1,500 by year end. Statistics Sweden reported an 8.4 percent vacancy rate for AI and ML engineering roles in Stockholm's financial sector against 3.2 percent IT unemployment. Fintech, B2B SaaS and AI are the healthy parts; telecom hardware and automotive are where the cuts are.
For candidates from outside the EU, a work permit needs a salary of at least SEK 34,470 a month for applications from 16 June 2026, and terms in line with the collective agreement for the role. Every engineering offer from the six employers here clears both. The Sweden tech interviews guide covers notice periods, the interview culture and the questions that come up because you are moving.
Method and dataset
CC BY 4.0, cite with a linkNine employers, chosen as the Stockholm tech loops people search for most: the best-paid office in the city (Google), the two largest established employers (Spotify, Klarna), the three largest games studios (King, EA DICE, Paradox), the largest engineering employer in the region (Ericsson), and the two fastest-growing startups (Lovable, Legora). Each has a round-by-round guide on this site with its sources listed; the loop length, the round it goes deepest on and the pay headline in the tables above are read from those guides at build time, so a correction to a guide corrects this page. The gate, the time to offer and the Glassdoor figures are set by hand from each guide's sources: the companies' own hiring pages where they exist (Spotify, Klarna, Ericsson), candidate accounts on Glassdoor, Blind, Reddit and LinkedIn, and Levels.fyi for pay, all read in September 2026.

FAQ & sources
The short answersHow is a Stockholm tech interview different from a FAANG loop?
Most Stockholm loops put homework before whiteboards. 6 of the 9 employers in this report gate on something you build at home or over a trial day (King's ten-hour take-home, DICE's twenty-hour assignment, Legora's six-hour build, Lovable's trial day), then spend the technical interviews reviewing it. Only Google and Spotify run the FAANG shape of a coding screen followed by an onsite of coding, design and a behavioural round, and Klarna gates on a timed abstract reasoning test before anyone speaks to you. The people side is heavier everywhere: a culture or values conversation, a manager round, and at the startups a founder call. Consensus hiring makes the loops slower than the round count suggests.
Which Stockholm tech company has the hardest interview?
On Glassdoor's difficulty score Spotify is the hardest of the four with enough reports, at 3.1 out of 5 with 46 percent of candidates calling the experience positive, then Klarna at about 3.0 and 39 percent positive, King a little under 3 with under half positive, and Ericsson the easiest at 2.8 and 70 percent positive. The scores measure different things: Spotify's case study round is hard to prepare for, Klarna's logic test fails people before their CV is read, King's take-home is ten hours of work. Lovable and Legora have too few reports to score; both are described as fast and demanding on what you have built.
How long does a Stockholm tech interview process take?
From one week to three months, depending on the company. Lovable is reported at one to two weeks, Google six to twelve including team matching, Ericsson averages about 21 days on Glassdoor, Spotify two to five weeks, Legora two to four, King about six weeks on average with a range from two to eight, and Klarna six to twelve. Add July, when Swedish hiring largely stops, and the consensus culture, in which several people must agree before an offer, and a loop that looks like five rounds on paper can take two months on the calendar.
Which Stockholm tech company pays engineers the most?
Google, at a senior median of SEK 1.72M in total pay on Levels.fyi, though its Stockholm office is small; among the large employers it is Spotify, at a senior median of SEK 1.17M in total pay on Levels.fyi as of September 2026, with stock making up most of the gap to Klarna (SEK 758K), King (SEK 743K base) and Ericsson (about SEK 730K at JS7). Lovable's Levels.fyi median is higher still at SEK 1.62M but rests on few reports and a large equity share; Legora publishes no ranges. Our Stockholm software engineer salary page puts the ladders by level side by side and adds what lands after tax.
Are Stockholm tech companies hiring in 2026?
Yes, selectively, and the headlines about cuts and the hiring are happening at the same time. Ericsson announced around 1,600 role reductions in Sweden in January 2026 and Klarna made a second round of cuts, mostly in operational roles, while continuing to hire engineers for AI work. Lovable and Legora are hiring fast on venture money, Spotify and King steadily. Statistics Sweden reported an 8.4 percent vacancy rate for AI and ML engineering roles in Stockholm's financial sector against 3.2 percent IT unemployment. Non-EU candidates need a work permit with a salary of at least SEK 34,470 a month from 16 June 2026, which every engineering offer here clears.
