Candidate accounts from 2021 to 2026 and Klarna's own description of its hiring agree on the shape, with the skills round the part that varies most by team and level.

Klarna's abstract reasoning test comes before any human conversation and ends the process if failed, whatever the CV says. Candidates describe 12 to 15 minutes, online, timed, video-proctored in recent accounts, of pattern puzzles: rotations, transformations, sequence rules. Two things make it preparable. The practice test Klarna sends is reported to be the same format as the real one, and the puzzle types are a closed set. Here is what appears and how to work each type under the clock.

• Sequences: which figure comes next: A row of shapes changes by one or two rules at a time: rotation by a fixed angle, a count that increases, a shading that alternates. Name each rule out loud in your head before choosing; the wrong answers are built to satisfy one rule and break the other.
• Matrices: fill the missing cell: A 3×3 grid where rows and columns each follow a rule. Check the row rule, then the column rule, then eliminate answers that fail either. The third row is usually the one with the gap, so derive it from the first two.
• Transformations: which pair follows the same change: One figure becomes another (reflected, rotated, a part added or removed). State the change as a sentence, then apply the same sentence to the second pair.
• The clock: Twelve to fifteen minutes for a set that is meant to run out. Answer what you can see quickly, mark and skip what you cannot, and come back; a blank scores the same as a wrong answer, so guess before the timer ends.
• The practice test is the test: Do it twice, timed, before the real one, and note which type slows you. Candidates consistently report the practice format matches the real one, and that the real one is the gate.
• Proctoring: Recent accounts describe a video-proctored session. Camera on, one screen, a quiet room, and the practice run done in the same conditions so nothing about the set-up is new on the day.

Free abstract reasoning sets in the same style exist on the assessment publishers' own sites; two evenings on them, timed, is the whole preparation. Everything after the test is a conventional loop; the test is where Klarna loses most of its candidates.

Klarna does not publish a values interview. What candidates report being probed on, across the behavioural session and the team round, is consistent.

• Reasoning speed under a clock, which is what the logic test is measuring and why it comes first
• Judgment in a regulated system: what can go wrong with money, and what you do when it does
• Disagreeing and committing, since teams are re-formed around competences rather than fixed roles

The behavioural questions are the common set; the discriminating parts are the logic test and the design session in the skills round.

1. Do the practice logic test Klarna sends, twice, under the clock. Candidates report it is the same format as the real one, and the real one is the gate: no amount of experience gets you past a failed test.
2. Prepare three Klarna-shaped designs before the skills round: a checkout with a payment and a refund, a fraud-detection pipeline, a ledger under retries. Say the consistency model and the failure modes before the interviewer asks.
3. Bring one incident from a system that handled money, with the first fifteen minutes in it. The behavioural session is graded on judgment in a regulated system, not on stories about shipping features.
4. Have a specific AI-tools story ready: a bug you found, a migration you sped up, a test suite you generated, with what it changed. Recent accounts say a vague "I use Copilot" lands badly.
5. Ask the recruiter which teams the pipeline is matching you to and prepare for that domain. Klarna hires for a competence, so the team round can land you somewhere the posting did not describe.
