Morgan Stanley HireVue questions, the three that keep coming back.
Updated · Sources at the end
Morgan Stanley's technology programmes start with a recorded video interview, and candidates searching for it want one thing: the questions. For the US Technology Analyst and Technology Summer Analyst programmes, the reports agree on a short set of three: why Morgan Stanley and why this role, a time you noticed something was wrong, and a technology trend over the next six to twelve months. Answers are recorded, about a minute and a half each, with two tries per question. London's Summer Technology process is longer: reasoning tests first, then a HireVue of seven to ten questions that includes technical questions you explain in words. This page covers that one round, because it is the one candidates report consistently. Morgan Stanley does not publish its stages, and no US report we could read describes a coding test's content, so neither is guessed at here.

Who Morgan Stanley hires
Morgan Stanley's Technology Analyst Program hires new graduates into technology divisions, with training starting in February and August and an 8-week global programme before analysts join a team; the 2026 New York programme posted a base of $110,000 to $125,000. The Technology Summer Analyst Program is the internship route: the 2027 posting asked for students graduating between December 2027 and May 2028 and posted $70,000 to $110,000. Both postings ask for a strong grasp of Linux or Unix and Windows, at least one language such as C, C++, Java or C#, object-oriented development, and data structures and algorithms.

What is the Morgan Stanley interview process?
Morgan Stanley's own interview preparation page says only that interviews could be competency, strengths based, skills based or technical, and that it is interested in how you work through a scenario. The steps below come from dated candidate reports and are marked as reported; your invitation is the final word on format and deadline.
Programme postings name the graduation window and the location; both 2026 and 2027 technology postings are now closed for this cycle's applications.
Reported in September 2024, October 2025 and September 2026: why Morgan Stanley and why this role, a time you noticed something was wrong, and a tech trend over the next six to twelve months. The section below goes through each.
A Summer Technology Analyst in London, December 2025: the reasoning tests first, then a HireVue received at the start of October mixing motivational, competency and technical explain-in-words questions, with two recording attempts each.
London Summer Technology, as reportedNo US report we could read describes the content of a coding assessment. If your invitation includes one, its platform and timing will be in it.
Reported by a Technology Analyst Program candidate in November 2025: data structures and algorithms and computer science fundamentals, with a sample question on types of indexes in relational databases. Reddit reports describe virtual Superdays of about an hour for application development in 2026.
The December 2025 London report describes four rounds ending in a HackerRank design exercise.
London Summer Technology, as reportedMorgan Stanley HireVue questions: what candidates report
Dated candidate reportsFor US Technology Analyst and Technology Summer Analyst candidates, the reports converge on three recorded questions, about a minute and a half per answer and two tries per question. The same three appear in reports from September 2024, October 2025 and September 2026, and the latest describes them as the same every year. London's Summer Technology HireVue is different and longer, so check which office your invitation is from. Here is each US question and how to take it.
- Why Morgan Stanley, and why this role?: Name one thing about Morgan Stanley's technology work you can point to, and one thing about the programme you applied to. Generic praise for the firm uses up your 90 seconds without saying anything.
- A time you noticed something was wrong: One story, told fast: what you noticed, what you did, what happened. Pick one where you acted, not one where you only reported it.
- A tech trend over the next 6 to 12 months: Pick something specific and current, say what changes for a bank, and give your view. Prepare two trends in case the first feels stale on the day.
- Two tries: Candidates report two attempts per question. Use the first as a real answer, not a rehearsal: you may not like the second better.
- The deadline: Reports differ: a prep guide says 24 to 48 hours is common for the 2026 and 2027 cycles, and a July 2025 candidate had 72 hours. Read your invitation the day it arrives.
Formats vary by office and programme, and change between cycles. These are reports, not Morgan Stanley's published format.
The rest of the loop depends on your role. Pick it, or paste the posting, and Calibrd predicts the rounds and questions you are likely to get at Morgan Stanley.
Predict my Morgan Stanley questions →What Morgan Stanley screens for
Morgan Stanley names five core values, and its preparation page says it cares how you work through a scenario more than whether you have the right answer. Recorded answers are short, so pick one value per story:
- Do the right thing: the natural frame for the "something was wrong" question
- Put clients first: tie your tech trend to what it changes for clients or the firm
- Lead with exceptional ideas: an opinion on the trend, not a summary of it
- Commit to diversity and inclusion: a team you made work, if the question allows it
- Give back: a reason to choose Morgan Stanley that is about more than the brand

- Prepare two current technology trends with a view on each, in case one feels stale on the day.

- Before the Superday, practise data structures problems and CS fundamentals such as database indexes out loud.
This page covers one round: the HireVue for Morgan Stanley's technology programmes, with the Superday and London's format briefly. Morgan Stanley publishes no stage list, so everything about the process is from dated candidate reports, marked so. For management and leadership roles the loop is similar but the bar shifts to people, delivery and strategy, so pair it with the leadership interview prep hub. The bar for your exact role comes from the role-by-role guides, and the prep that actually transfers is spoken, so run a mock interview before the real one.
