UBS interview and online assessments, explained.
Updated · Sources at the end
UBS tests its graduates and interns online before anyone interviews them. Its careers page lists four assessments: verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, inductive-logical reasoning and the UBS Culture Match, a set of work scenarios where you pick the most effective response in line with UBS's principles. Which ones you get depends on the business area, and you have seven days from the invitation. Then comes a recorded video interview and the final interviews UBS calls Making a match. Technology candidates in 2025 and 2026 also describe a HackerRank test of multiple-choice questions and one or two coding problems. UBS's FAQ adds a rule worth knowing before you start: every assessment and interview must be completed without AI or any outside help.

Who UBS hires
UBS had about 105,000 employees at the end of 2025, a third of them in Switzerland, and runs large technology hubs in Kraków, Wrocław, Pune, Mumbai and Hyderabad alongside Zurich and New York. In October 2026 it was hiring for its 2027 Graduate Talent Program in Zurich (software engineering, AI and data engineering, AI engineering, IT business analysis and product management) and in New York and New Jersey, plus technology internships. Postings for the Zurich programme ask for a minimum Swiss GPA of 4.5, a degree in the last 24 months, Java and Spring Boot, and evidence of using AI responsibly at work. It is also still cutting jobs after taking over Credit Suisse.
UBS runs one process for early careers and a shorter one for experienced hires.
Track · Early careers
Graduates and interns
An online application with your CV, the online assessments within seven days, a recorded video interview, then final interviews. UBS limits applications: in the US and APAC up to three per academic year; in the UK one programme application. Switzerland accepts applications all year; other regions open on set dates (the UK from August, the US from September, India from June, Poland in spring).
Track · Professional
Experienced hires
UBS's professional careers page lists the Culture Match assessment, a cognitive assessment of numerical and verbal reasoning, and a video interview for junior roles, then interviews with your future line manager and possibly peers or senior leaders. You can apply to at most five professional roles a month, and the offer stage can include a credit check and references.
What is the UBS interview process?
The steps below are UBS's own for graduates and interns. Its job postings say it may reject an application automatically if you don't pass a required online assessment. The technical details come from candidates in India; Swiss and Polish accounts weren't available. The problem candidates raise most is uncertainty: thousands of jobs cut since the Credit Suisse takeover, more planned, and slow offer letters.
UBS says a cover letter usually isn't needed. Check the posting's requirements carefully; the Zurich graduate programme asks for a Swiss GPA of 4.5 or above and a degree within the last 24 months, and the US programme says it can't sponsor work visas, including OPT or CPT.
Verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, inductive-logical reasoning and the UBS Culture Match. Which ones you get depends on the business area. UBS says they must be done by you alone, without AI or outside support, and its postings say a failed assessment can mean automatic rejection.
Candidates describe multiple-choice questions on programming, databases, operating systems and networks, plus one or two coding problems from easy to medium. Some versions add output-prediction, pseudo-code or a technical scenario. UBS names HackerRank among its assessment providers.
Technology rolesUBS says you might receive a link to record a video interview, and advises dressing smartly, keeping eye contact with the camera and being concise.
A 2026 intern candidate in India describes an hour to discuss a case and build slides as a group, then present it. Listen, contribute one clear idea, and help the group finish on time.
Some graduate and intern intakesUBS calls this the last stage. Candidates describe one or two technical interviews on their CV and projects, Java and object-oriented programming, SQL, easy coding and a design scenario, then an HR conversation about why UBS, location and other offers.
UBS says the offer stage can need extra information such as a credit check. Candidates on Blind report slow offer letters.
UBS online assessments: the reasoning tests, Culture Match and HackerRank
What each test is and how to prepareUBS's careers page names four online assessments and gives you seven days to complete them. Its job postings name the providers it shares data with for assessments: Aon, Korn Ferry, HackerRank and Modern Hire. UBS doesn't say which provider runs which test. Technology candidates also report a HackerRank technical test.
- Verbal reasoning: Short passages followed by statements you judge true, false or unknown from the text alone. Read only what the passage says; your own knowledge of the topic is the most common trap.
- Numerical reasoning: Tables and charts with percentage, ratio and currency questions. Read the units and the question before the table, and practise quick mental arithmetic with a calculator to hand.
- Inductive-logical reasoning: Sequences of shapes or patterns where you find the rule and choose the next one. Look for one change at a time: rotation, count, position, shading.
- UBS Culture Match: Realistic work scenarios where you choose the most effective course of action, in line with UBS's principles and behaviours. Read UBS's stated principles before you start, and choose the response that solves the problem honestly and involves the right people.
- HackerRank technical test (reported for technology roles): Candidates describe multiple-choice questions on programming, databases, operating systems and networks, then one or two coding problems, easy to medium, in about 60 to 90 minutes. Do the coding problem you're surest of first. One 2025 candidate noted questions that rendered badly; if that happens, note it and tell the recruiter.
- The rules: Complete the tests within seven days of the invitation, on your own: UBS bans AI and outside support in every assessment and interview. A failed required assessment can lead to automatic rejection, so take them rested and in one sitting each.
The rest of the loop depends on your role. Pick it, or paste the posting, and Calibrd predicts the rounds and questions you are likely to get at UBS.

- Using AI responsibly on the job. The Zurich graduate postings ask you to show how experimental, responsible use of AI improved outcomes

This guide covers UBS's technology hiring for graduates, interns and experienced engineers. For management and leadership roles the loop is similar but the bar shifts to people, delivery and strategy, so pair it with the leadership interview prep hub. The bar for your exact role comes from the role-by-role guides, and the prep that actually transfers is spoken, so run a mock interview before the real one.
