Robinhood's own blog says engineering interviews use system design discussions, coding exercises or real-world scenarios. The round-by-round shape below comes from interviewing.io and candidate reports; expect four to six weeks, and different details for interns and for data science.

Robinhood's coding screen runs on CodeSignal, and the problems candidates post are its products in miniature. The statements are long and exact, with starter code that may just return a placeholder, so reading carefully is half the work. Output is checked against test cases, which is why interviewing.io's note that Robinhood grades correctness over scalability matters. Here are the reported problems and the approach that passes.

• Fractional shares inventory: Keep a map from symbol to inventory in hundredths of a share. For each order, convert dollars to shares if needed, then apply it: a buy takes from inventory and, if that would go below zero, buys enough whole shares from the exchange; a sell adds to inventory and, if that reaches one share or more, sells whole shares back. After every order the inventory must be at least zero and under one. Never use floating point; the last two digits of every integer are the decimals.
• The fractional shares follow-up: Record the inventory after each order in a log you return alongside the final state. If the core update is a small function that takes an inventory and an order, the log is a loop around it.
• Referral chain leaderboard: Store each user's referrer. When a new user joins, walk up the chain and add one to every ancestor's count. Skip anyone already on the platform. Then sort by count descending and name ascending, keep users with at least one referral, and return the top three as "name count".
• Service load factor: Parse lines like m=n,p,q into edges m to n, p and q. Starting from the entry point with a count of one, pass each service's count to its dependencies in topological order, so a service reached through two callers is counted twice. Return the map of service to count.
• Reading the statement: These problems specify rounding, ordering and tie-breaking precisely, and the hidden tests check all of it. Before coding, write down each rule from the statement and one example for each.

Practise the fractional shares problem end to end in integers before the screen. It is the most detailed of the reported problems and rewards careful reading more than speed.

Robinhood's careers blog names four things it values and says how AI fits into hiring. Its postings add correctness and customer trust.

• Collaboration: close work with product, design, data and infrastructure
• AI fluency: working with AI every day is a baseline expectation, but not in the interview itself

Candidates have posted the coding problems in full. They are built on Robinhood's own products, with exact rules about rounding, ordering and ties.

Base salary ranges posted on Robinhood's Senior Software Engineer, Backend listing, updated 25 September 2026. Bonus and equity come on top, and Robinhood is a listed company, so equity is public stock. Robinhood asks for at least three days a week in the office.

1. Solve the fractional shares problem from its full statement in integers, then add the inventory log. Check every order leaves inventory at zero or above and under one share.
2. Solve the referral leaderboard with the exact tie rule and output format, and time yourself.
3. Prepare a system diagram of one project you know deeply before the onsite; the past project round asks for it.
4. Have two designs ready: an order path for a trading app, and one broad design such as a news feed or a document editor for the other round.
5. Practise without AI tools; Robinhood asks you not to use them in live interviews or assessments.
6. Bring a story about a technical debate you lost and how you committed to the decision anyway.
