Infosys interview questions, for freshers on every track.

Updated · Sources at the end

Infosys hires most of its engineers straight out of college, and the questions you face depend on which of three tracks you are on. Systems Engineer is the large-volume role: a two-hour aptitude test with a cutoff in every section, then a short interview about your resume, your project and basics like SDLC and OOP. Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer are the higher-paid tracks, reached through HackWithInfy or an off-campus drive. Both start with a coding-only test of three problems in three hours, and Specialist Programmer candidates then face a live coding problem and a technical interview at an Infosys office.

The offer is not the finish line. New hires train at the Global Education Center in Mysuru, which Infosys calls the largest corporate training facility in the world, and must clear an assessment there in three attempts. In February 2025 Infosys let go about 300 trainees who did not, and about 240 more in April. Infosys says the rule has existed for over two decades and is in the contract. Earlier, some of the 2022 campus batch waited about two and a half years for a joining date, Business Standard reported.

Who Infosys hires

Infosys hired more than 20,000 freshers in the year to March 2026 and says it will hire about 20,000 more college graduates by March 2027; it had added over 4,000 by June. Most join as Systems Engineer trainees. In December 2025 Infosys ran an off-campus drive for 2025 graduates with BE, BTech, ME, MTech, MCA or integrated MSc degrees in computer science, IT and some electronics and electrical branches, for four trainee roles: Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer at levels L1, L2 and L3. Its CHRO said the company was expanding the Specialist Programmer track as it hires for AI work. Experienced engineers apply through Infosys's careers site and go through technical and HR interviews; this guide is about freshers.

Before you apply, see how your resume reads to a hiring manager with a free resume review.

The track decides the test, the interview and the pay. Candidates report that one coding test serves both DSE and SP, and that the number of problems you solve decides which interview you are called for.

  • Track · SE

    Systems Engineer

On-campus and off-campus drives. A two-hour test of reasoning, maths, verbal ability, pseudocode, puzzles and a short essay, with a cutoff in each section, then a 20 to 30 minute interview that mixes technical, HR and situational questions. Candidates report the interview can be on the day after the test.

  • Track · DSE

    Digital Specialist Engineer

The coding test of three problems in three hours, then a technical interview. Candidates who solved one problem fully and part of another report being called for DSE. Earlier DSE interviews were short: a coding problem, a few CS questions and some quick mental maths.

  • Track · SP

    Specialist Programmer L1 to L3

The same coding test, or HackWithInfy, then a live coding problem in about 40 minutes at an Infosys office and a technical interview on DSA, SQL, OOP, OS, DBMS and your projects. Some drives ask for a two-slide presentation about yourself. The level you are offered depends on your test and interview.

What is the Infosys interview process?

Infosys does not publish its test or interview format. The steps below come from candidate reports from 2022 to 2025 and from Infosys's own HackWithInfy and training pages, marked where they are reported. Drives differ by campus and year, so read your invitation for the format.

01
Registration
Through your college, an off-campus drive or HackWithInfy

Campus drives run through your placement office; some are pool drives across many colleges, with Infosys mock tests and briefings beforehand. Off-campus drives are announced for a graduating batch with a fixed list of eligible degrees and branches.

02
Systems Engineer test
About 2 hours, sectional cutoffs, no negative marking

Reasoning, maths, verbal ability, pseudocode output questions, puzzles and a short essay of about 200 words. Candidates report a cutoff in every section, so a skipped section can end your attempt. One 2025 candidate says only about 5% at their drive cleared it.

SE track
03
Coding test
3 problems in 3 hours, coding only

Easy, medium and hard DSA problems with tight limits: arrays, greedy, binary search, DP, graphs, number theory. A December 2025 drive set four problems on Infosys's own proctored app. Partial credit on test cases counts. The section below goes through it.

DSE and SP tracks
04
HackWithInfy
Round 1 online, an advanced round, then a hackathon finale

Infosys's national coding contest for final-year students. Infosys says participants can win pre-placement interviews for Specialist Programmer and other specialist roles, and the 2025 finale brought 100 coders in 20 teams to Pune for a 40-hour hackathon.

Optional route to SP
05
Live coding round
One problem in about 40 minutes, at an Infosys office

Reported from 2025: a medium-hard problem coded in front of the interviewer, sometimes a choice of two, before the technical discussion. Explain your approach before you type.

SP track, recent drives
06
Technical interview
20 minutes for SE, up to 90 minutes for SP

For SE: your project, OOP basics, the language on your resume, SDLC and Scrum. For DSE and SP: one or two coding problems, SQL, OOP, operating systems, DBMS and deep questions on every project on your resume.

07
HR and situational questions
Often inside the same interview

Why Infosys, relocation, handling rejection, time management, your CGPA trend, and a few short scenarios to see how you decide. Some SP drives ask for a two-slide presentation about yourself and your goals.

08
Foundation Program in Mysuru
Residential training, about four to five months

Generic training in programming, databases and professional skills, then a technology stream. You must clear the assessment within three attempts to stay. The 2025 assessments reportedly covered Java and databases with a 65% pass mark.

03

Infosys online test: SE sections and the SP and DSE coding test

Reported problems and how to solve them

Infosys runs two different tests. Systems Engineer candidates take an aptitude test of about two hours with a cutoff in every section and no negative marking; prep site FACE Prep lists about 15 reasoning, 10 maths, 20 verbal, 5 pseudocode and 4 puzzle questions, and candidates add a short essay. DSE and Specialist Programmer candidates take a coding-only test of three problems in three hours, usually rising from easy to hard, and a December 2025 drive set four on Infosys's own proctored app. Candidates report that passing many test cases on two or three problems can be enough for an interview call, and that solving all three points toward SP. Read your invitation, because formats change between drives.

  • SE: reasoning and puzzles: Arrangements, syllogisms, blood relations, direction sense and grid puzzles. Since every section has a cutoff, keep a fixed time budget per question and move on when a puzzle runs past it.
  • SE: maths: Percentages, profit and loss, time and distance, permutations and data interpretation. This section gets the most time per question, so practise the common formulas until you no longer derive them in the test.
  • SE: verbal ability and the essay: Reading comprehension, sentence correction and para jumbles, then a short essay of about 200 words. Write a clear opening, two points and a close, with clean spelling. No negative marking means you should answer every question.
  • SE: pseudocode: Short programs where you predict the output: loops, recursion, operators. Trace with a table of variable values, one row per iteration, and read every line.
  • SP and DSE: the easy problem: Usually arrays or greedy. Solve it fully first, then test an empty input, one element and the largest input, because hidden test cases decide the score.
  • SP and DSE: the medium and hard problems: Reported topics are DP, binary search, graphs, prime factorisation and inversions, with limits up to 100,000. Read the limits first: n up to 20 suggests bitmasks or backtracking, n up to 1,000 suggests O(n squared), and n up to 100,000 needs O(n log n). If you cannot solve one fully, write a correct slower version, since partial test cases count.

What Infosys screens for

Across the tracks, the same few things decide whether a fresher gets through and stays.

  • Steady accuracy in every section of the aptitude test, since one weak section can end the attempt
  • Correct, complete code under a clock, with edge cases handled
  • A project on your resume you can explain in depth, line by line
  • Clear basics in OOP, DBMS, SQL and operating systems
  • Willingness to relocate, learn a new stack and clear the Mysuru assessment

How to prepare for an Infosys interview

  1. Find out which track your drive is for. SE needs aptitude practice; DSE and SP need hard DSA practice.
  2. For SE, take timed section-by-section mocks and fix the section where you are weakest, since each one has a cutoff.
  3. Practise pseudocode tracing with a variable table until it is fast and exact.
  4. For DSE and SP, solve three problems in three hours at least once a week, and get the easy one fully correct before moving on.
  5. Revise DP, greedy, binary search, graphs and basic number theory, and read each problem's limits before choosing an approach.
  6. Prepare to explain every project on your resume in depth, including one hard bug and one choice you would change.
  7. Revise OOP, DBMS, SQL queries, operating systems and SDLC with Scrum basics.
  8. If your SP call asks for a short presentation about yourself, keep it to two slides: what you have built and what you want to build next.
  9. Before you join, revise Java and SQL basics. The Mysuru assessment gives three attempts, and failing all three ends your training.
  10. Keep applying elsewhere until you have a confirmed joining date.

This guide covers fresher software hiring at Infosys in India: Systems Engineer, Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer. Experienced hires apply for specific roles and skip the fresher tests. For management and leadership roles the loop is similar but the bar shifts to people, delivery and strategy, so pair it with the leadership interview prep hub. The bar for your exact role comes from the role-by-role guides, and the prep that actually transfers is spoken, so run a mock interview before the real one.
