Deloitte HireVue interview, from the recorded questions to the case.

Updated · Sources at the end

Most students and many experienced hires meet Deloitte through a camera before they meet a person. Deloitte Canada says that if you are selected for a first round, you will get an invitation to a "digital, on-demand video interview via HireVue". Deloitte New Zealand calls it a one-way video interview and tells you to treat it like a first face-to-face interview. You record answers to a few questions on your own, and a recruiter watches them later. After that come live interviews, which Deloitte says can be behavioural, a case, or both.

Deloitte reported aggregate global revenue of US$70.5 billion for the fiscal year that ended 31 May 2025, up 4.9% in US dollars, and a workforce of over 470,000 people. Deloitte US alone recorded $35.7 billion in revenue for the same year. The firm groups its work into Audit & Assurance, Strategy, Risk & Transactions, Technology & Transformation, and Tax & Legal.

01

Who Deloitte hires

Deloitte hires graduates and experienced people into audit, tax, risk and consulting, and a large share of its technology hiring sits in consulting. Technology & Transformation covers cloud, cybersecurity, data, AI and enterprise systems, and in FY2025 Deloitte launched Deloitte Engineering for full software delivery. In the US, entry-level technology roles include analyst profiles such as cyber software engineering in the Government & Public Services practice, and experienced roles include software engineers on large public sector systems. Many consulting roles ask for travel, and some US government roles need a security clearance.

Deloitte is a network of member firms, and each country runs its own hiring. The first round is a recorded video in most places, but what sits around it changes. These are the four versions Deloitte describes on its own careers pages.

  • Track · US

    United States

Deloitte US publishes video interview tips and a guide to its case and scenario interviews. Entry-level Consultative Offerings candidates get a case interview, and entry-level Audit & Assurance candidates get a scenario interview. Candidates on r/deloitte report a HireVue with two recorded questions before the live rounds.

  • Track · Canada

    Canada, students

You send a cover letter, resume and unofficial transcript as one PDF. If you are picked for a first round, Deloitte Canada says you get an invitation to an on-demand video interview on HireVue. Some roles add an online assessment, and the second round can mix behavioural and case interviews, held virtually, on campus or in an office.

  • Track · UK

    United Kingdom, early careers

Four steps: an online application, an Immersive Online Assessment with workplace scenarios plus numerical and verbal reasoning, a Job Simulation that includes recorded video responses, and a final stage. For graduates the final stage is in person: a discussion of a topic you prepare, then a skills and motivation interview of about 50 minutes.

  • Track · Australia and NZ

    Australia and New Zealand

Deloitte New Zealand's student process is an application, a one-way video interview on HireVue, a face-to-face interview and an offer. Deloitte Australia lists a recorded video interview for some roles or high-volume hiring, a case study for selected positions, and a final interview with a senior leader or Partner.

02

What is the Deloitte interview process?

The stages below are the shape Deloitte's own pages describe across the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. The order is close to the same everywhere; the content of each round depends on the country and the service line. Details on the video interview itself come from candidate reports and are marked as reported.

01
Application
Online form with your CV, and often a cover letter and transcript

Deloitte Canada asks for the cover letter, resume and unofficial transcript in one PDF. Deloitte New Zealand only reviews your first application, so pick the team you want most. Say why this service line, because the video asks it again.

02
Online assessment
Online tests, for some roles and countries

Deloitte Canada says some roles need an online assessment. In the UK every early careers applicant takes the Immersive Online Assessment: ranked responses to workplace scenarios, questions on working style, and timed numerical and verbal reasoning.

Some roles and countries
03
HireVue video interview
Recorded on your own, on HireVue; the UK uses a Job Simulation with video answers

A few questions on screen, a short time to think, then a recorded answer. New Zealand says the questions vary with the business unit you applied to. Candidates report questions on why Deloitte, why this role or team, and a time you did something well with others. The section below goes through it.

04
Behavioural interview
Live, virtual or in person, often with a manager

Deloitte Australia calls its method Behavioural Event Interviewing and suggests the STAR structure. Expect questions on working with others, solving a hard problem, coping with change and using technology or data to improve a result.

05
Case or scenario interview
Live, with a case read out or shared before

Deloitte US gives entry-level Consultative Offerings candidates a case interview and entry-level Audit & Assurance candidates a scenario interview. Deloitte says it wants your logic out loud more than a right answer. Glassdoor reports for US consulting analysts often describe one behavioural and one case interview.

Consulting and some other roles
06
Final interview
With a senior leader or Partner, or an in-person final stage in the UK

Deloitte Australia lists a final talk with a senior leader or Partner. In the UK the graduate final stage is a discussion of a topic you prepare, then a skills and motivation interview of about 50 minutes.

07
Offer and checks
Verbal offer, then a written contract

Deloitte Canada and Australia both describe a verbal offer first. Checks can include references, qualifications, work rights and criminal history, and some US roles need a security clearance.

03

Deloitte HireVue interview: questions and how to answer

From Deloitte's pages and candidate reports

Deloitte Canada and Deloitte New Zealand both name HireVue for their student video interview, and Deloitte Australia uses a recorded video for some roles and high-volume hiring. You answer questions shown on screen into your camera, with nobody on the call. Deloitte does not publish the number of questions or the timings. A candidate on r/deloitte reported two recorded questions, three minutes to answer and two attempts at each. Other reports describe two to four video questions with 30 to 60 seconds to think and two to three minutes per answer, and no retakes in the UK-style Job Simulation. Check the instructions on your own invite, because the settings change by country and role.

  • Why Deloitte, and why this team?: Deloitte New Zealand asks you to be clear on your motivation for Deloitte and the business unit you chose. Name one thing specific to the service line, such as its kind of client or a recent project, and one thing about you that fits it. Keep it to about a minute.
  • A STAR story on teamwork, a challenge or a change: Pick one real example, set the scene in two sentences, spend most of the time on what you did, and end with a result you can measure. Deloitte Australia suggests the STAR structure for its interviews.
  • A short problem to talk through: Some candidates report a question that asks how they would approach a problem. Say your approach out loud: what you would ask, what you would assume and what you would check first. Deloitte's case guidance values your logic more than the answer.
  • The Job Simulation in the UK: Deloitte UK's Job Simulation mixes ranking responses, choosing responses, written answers and recorded video, around workplace scenarios that may mention AI. Use the practice questions inside the assessment, and answer as you would really act.
  • Timing and attempts: Use the practice questions at the start, which New Zealand recommends, to learn the clock. If you get a second attempt, use it only to fix a real mistake. If you get one, keep going after a stumble.
  • Your set-up: Deloitte's tips: a quiet room, light in front of you, the camera at eye level and a charged device. New Zealand allows the HireVue app on a phone. Look at the camera, dress as you would for work, and speak to it as you would to a person.

Calibrd's mock interview can rehearse recorded answers aloud with a timer, so you can practise the HireVue questions and the live behavioural and case rounds before the real thing.

04

What Deloitte screens for

Deloitte publishes five Shared Values, and the behavioural rounds come back to them. Deloitte Australia names the same five as Leadership, Integrity, Care, Inclusion and Collaboration. In an interview they look like this:

  • Lead the way: taking the first step on something new, and showing you can learn fast in an unfamiliar area
  • Serve with integrity: doing the right thing when it costs you time or a good result, which Deloitte calls its most important responsibility
  • Take care of each other: looking out for teammates, with respect, fairness and attention to their development
  • Foster inclusion: bringing in people with different views and making sure quieter people are heard
  • Collaborate for measurable impact: working across teams and skills toward a result you can measure

Software Engineer II, Government & Public Services, US$76,700 to $127,900 posted range, plus a discretionary annual incentive

How to prepare for a Deloitte interview

  1. Read the instructions on your HireVue invite first: the number of questions, the time to think and the number of attempts vary by country and role.
  2. Prepare a two-minute answer to why Deloitte and why this service line, with one detail specific to the team.
  3. Write four STAR stories, one each for teamwork, integrity, a late change and using technology or data, and say each one aloud against a timer.
  4. Do the practice questions at the start of the video interview to get used to the camera and the clock.
  5. Set up a quiet room with light in front of you and the camera at eye level, and use a charged device.
  6. For consulting roles, practise cases out loud with Deloitte's five steps: understand the issue, state assumptions, summarise findings, recommend, give next steps.
  7. For audit roles, practise scenario questions where you spot an issue, gather evidence and raise it with a senior.
  8. In the UK, follow Deloitte's Integrity and AI guidance and use its free Candidate Zone; Deloitte warns that paid assessment insight sites are not endorsed.

This guide covers Deloitte's student and early career hiring in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand, with a focus on technology and consulting roles. Each member firm runs its own process, so your invite is the final word. For management and leadership roles the loop is similar but the bar shifts to people, delivery and strategy, so pair it with the leadership interview prep hub. The bar for your exact role comes from the role-by-role guides, and the prep that actually transfers is spoken, so run a mock interview before the real one.
