PwC behavioral interview, and the two-part PwC Professional behind it.

Updated · Sources at the end

PwC tells candidates in the US, Canada, Australia and its India delivery centers the same thing: prepare by reviewing the PwC Professional. That is the framework PwC uses to recruit, develop and manage everyone, and its current version has two dimensions, Trusted Leadership and Distinctive Outcomes. Many prep guides still describe the older version with five attributes (whole leadership, technical capabilities, business acumen, global acumen and relationships). If you build your stories around those five, you are preparing for a framework PwC has replaced. This guide uses the current one.

PwC's Global Annual Review 2025 reports revenue of US$56.9 billion and 364,000 people in 136 countries, and investment of US$3.1 billion across the network that year, including 12 acquisitions. Its stated purpose is to build trust in society and solve important problems.

01

Who PwC hires

PwC hires graduates and experienced people into Assurance, Tax and Advisory, and its technology hiring sits across all three. Recent US job ads include software engineers building apps with Mendix and React Native, AI engineers and data scientists for client AI work, software engineering in Tax Innovation, and technology consulting interns. PwC's Acceleration Centers in India and Manila hire large entry-level classes for technology, tax and deals work. Many client-facing roles involve travel, and the ads state how much.

PwC is a network of member firms, and each country runs its own hiring. Every version below comes back to the same framework, the PwC Professional, but the rounds around it differ. These are the versions PwC describes on its own careers pages.

  • Track · US

    United States, entry level

Most entry-level roles start with a short work-style assessment sent by email within a few hours of applying. Assurance and Tax candidates then typically have two consecutive live virtual interviews: one with behavioral questions and one with Innovation Scenario-Based questions. Most Advisory roles add a case interview of about 30 to 45 minutes.

  • Track · UK

    United Kingdom, early careers

Online assessments on the SHL platform (a behavioral test, then a timed cognitive test with numerical, inductive and deductive reasoning), an on-demand video interview also on SHL, a virtual immersive assessment centre, matching to a business area for graduates, and a final in-person interview with a senior leader.

  • Track · Australia

    Australia, graduates

Four online assessments of about 50 minutes on behaviours, skills and emotional intelligence, then a digital interview with two questions. The assessment centre has a group case study and an individual interview with a senior and a junior team member, and PwC says it assesses you against the PwC Professional.

  • Track · Canada

    Canada

For experienced hires, PwC Canada uses on-demand video interviews on HireVue, with behavioral, technical and situational questions, before a live interview. Its campus page lists an online application and then interviews, and tells students to prepare STAR examples against the PwC Professional dimensions.

  • Track · ACs

    Acceleration Centers, India and Manila

PwC's delivery centers describe an initial screening, then competency-based and technical interviews. Testimonials on PwC's India page mention two or three technical rounds and one HR round, with case studies, guesstimates and questions on past projects.

02

What is the PwC interview process?

The stages below are the shape PwC's own pages describe for the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, the Middle East and the Acceleration Centers. The order is close to the same everywhere. What each round contains depends on the country and the line of service, so the invite you receive is the final word. PwC US and the Acceleration Centers both say that using AI during the assessment and interviews is not permitted.

01
Application
Online form with your CV, plus a transcript in some countries

PwC Canada asks students for a resume or CACEE form and an unofficial transcript, with no cover letter, and allows one application per round. PwC UK considers one early careers application at a time. Pick the line of service you want most.

02
Online assessment
Online, length varies by country

In the US it is a work-style questionnaire for most entry-level roles, untimed, about 15 to 20 minutes, with no preparation needed. The UK uses SHL: a behavioral test, then a timed cognitive test. Australia sets four assessments of about 50 minutes. The Middle East core is verbal, numerical and inductive reasoning.

03
Video interview
Recorded on your own, for some countries and roles

PwC UK uses an on-demand video interview on SHL, with questions on screen and answers reviewed later by an assessor. Australia's digital interview asks two questions. PwC Canada uses HireVue for experienced hires. In the Middle East a Digital Interview follows the reasoning tests if you pass them.

UK, Australia, Canada experienced, Middle East
04
Behavioral interview
Live, virtual or in person, with PwC professionals

Examples of how you have shown the PwC Professional dimensions, from work, study, sport or volunteering. PwC Canada suggests the STAR method. In the US this is one of the two back-to-back interviews for Assurance and Tax. The section below goes through it.

05
Innovation Scenario or technical interview
Live, alongside the behavioral interview

US Assurance and Tax candidates get forward-looking questions on how they would approach AI, technology and innovation, often starting with "What would you do if" or "Imagine you are". Technical roles at the Acceleration Centers report technical rounds with case studies, guesstimates and past projects.

US Assurance and Tax; technical roles
06
Case interview or assessment centre
Live case of about 30 to 45 minutes, or a group case day

PwC US says most Advisory roles include a virtual case interview and that it is looking at your reasoning as much as your conclusion. Australia's assessment centre has a group case study. The UK runs a virtual immersive assessment centre.

Most Advisory roles; UK and Australia graduates
07
Final interview and offer
Senior leader, Partner or Director, then a verbal offer

The UK final stage is an in-person interview with a senior leader from your matched business area. The Middle East ends with a Partner or Director. Australia gives a verbal offer followed by a written one.

PwC behavioral interview: questions and the PwC Professional

From PwC's pages

PwC US says all its people are recruited, developed and managed against the PwC Professional, which has two dimensions. Trusted Leadership is about how you get results: your impact on others, coaching, and growing. Distinctive Outcomes is about the results themselves: quality, integrity and inclusion, a business mindset, and collaboration for clients. PwC says it will look for examples of both from your work, studies, extracurricular or volunteer activities. It does not publish a question list, so the items below are how to prepare against the framework it does publish.

  • Stories for Trusted Leadership: Prepare one story each for Inspire, Empower and Evolve: a time you changed how you worked because of its effect on others, a time you helped someone improve, and something you learned ahead of need. Spend most of each answer on what you did.
  • Stories for Distinctive Outcomes: Prepare one story each for Champion, Build and Deliver: a time you held to quality or integrity under pressure, a time you thought about the business behind a task, and a time you worked across teams for a customer. End each with a result you can measure.
  • If a question uses the old five attributes: Some interviewers and many prep sites still use the earlier model: whole leadership, technical capabilities, business acumen, global acumen and relationships. Your six stories cover those too. Business acumen is your Build story, relationships is Empower or Deliver, and whole leadership is Inspire.
  • Why PwC and why this line of service: Name one thing specific to Assurance, Tax or Advisory and one thing about you that fits it. PwC UK's final interview asks why you want to join, so keep a short version ready for every stage.
  • The Innovation Scenario interview in the US: For Assurance and Tax this interview sits next to the behavioral one. Answer "Imagine you are" questions with a plan: the goal, how you would use the technology, what could go wrong and who checks the result.
  • Recorded video rounds: The UK, Australia, Canada for experienced hires, and the Middle East use a recorded video before any live round. The same stories work there. Use the practice questions on the platform, which PwC Canada says are not seen by anyone, to learn the timing.

Calibrd's mock interview can rehearse the behavioral and recorded video interviews aloud, so you can practise your PwC Professional stories against a timer before the real thing.

04

What PwC screens for

PwC's global site lists five values: Act with integrity, Make a difference, Care, Work together and Reimagine the possible. The PwC Professional turns them into six behaviors under two dimensions, and these are what the behavioral interview asks you to show:

  • Inspire (Trusted Leadership): you understand your impact on others, and people want to work with you
  • Empower (Trusted Leadership): you coach and work side by side with others
  • Evolve (Trusted Leadership): you keep growing and look ahead to what the work will need next
  • Champion (Distinctive Outcomes): you commit to quality, integrity and inclusive behavior
  • Build (Distinctive Outcomes): you bring a business mindset to your work and understand the market
  • Deliver (Distinctive Outcomes): you collaborate across PwC to give clients a quality experience

How to prepare for a PwC interview

  1. Read the current PwC Professional page before you prepare: two dimensions, Trusted Leadership and Distinctive Outcomes, and six behaviors under them.
  2. Write six STAR stories, one for each behavior (Inspire, Empower, Evolve, Champion, Build, Deliver), and say each one aloud against a timer.
  3. Draw the stories from anywhere: PwC says work, studies, extracurricular and volunteer activities all count.
  4. Prepare a short answer to why PwC and why this line of service, with one detail specific to the team.
  5. For US Assurance and Tax, practise "Imagine you are" questions about using AI or new technology on a client problem.
  6. For Advisory, practise 30 to 45 minute cases out loud with PwC's two sample cases, and use simple numbers.
  7. Do the online assessment soon after applying: in the US your application is not complete until you submit it.
  8. Do not use AI tools during the assessment or interviews; PwC US and the Acceleration Centers both say it is not permitted.

This guide covers PwC's entry-level and early career hiring in the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, the Middle East and the Acceleration Centers, with a focus on technology and advisory roles. Each member firm runs its own process, so your invite is the final word. For management and leadership roles the loop is similar but the bar shifts to people, delivery and strategy, so pair it with the leadership interview prep hub. The bar for your exact role comes from the role-by-role guides, and the prep that actually transfers is spoken, so run a mock interview before the real one.

Also interviewing at Goldman Sachs, Optiver or Stripe? Their guides follow the same format, from the first screen to the offer.
