Saronic interview, present what you built.

Updated · Sources at the end

Saronic builds autonomous surface vessels for the US Navy and its allies, and it is growing fast: a $1.75 billion round at a $9.25 billion valuation in March 2026, a planned $3 billion shipyard in Brownsville, Texas, and 207 open roles. Its interviews, as candidates describe them, lead to an onsite day built around you presenting something you worked on for 15 to 20 minutes, alongside a problem-solving exercise, a meeting with the head of engineering and a walk through manufacturing.

Two rules apply before any of that. Every posting requires U.S. Person status, because the work touches export-controlled information, and nearly every role is on-site, most in Austin. Candidates also report long waits: several in 2026 heard nothing for a month or two after late rounds, while others heard back within days. Keep other processes going until you have an offer in writing.

Who Saronic hires

Saronic had about 1,300 employees in 2026 by outside estimates and says it builds vessels from the six-foot Spyglass to the Marauder, plus Echelon, its command and control software. On 4 October 2026 it had 207 open roles: 51 in manufacturing, 44 in engineering, 14 in software engineering, 20 in mission services, 10 internships and 9 for Port Alpha, its Brownsville shipyard planned to open in 2028. What is the Saronic interview process?

Saronic does not publish its interview process. The shape below comes from 2025 and 2026 candidate reports on Reddit and Glassdoor; engineering candidates describe roughly the same steps, and software-specific rounds are thinly reported.

01
Screening call
With a recruiter

Your background, why defence and why Saronic, and the U.S. Person requirement. Ask which rounds your role has.

02
Technical or video interview
Online

Candidates report a technical round, with coding and system design for forward deployed engineers. The coding platform is not reported.

03
Hiring manager or VP
A conversation

Several candidates report a round with a VP before the onsite: your experience and how you work under pressure.

04
Onsite day
About four rounds at Saronic's site

A problem-solving exercise, a 15 to 20 minute presentation of something you built, a meeting with the head of engineering, and a walk through manufacturing. Production roles start with group interviews instead.

05
Offer
Variable timing

Some candidates heard within five days; others waited one to two months, and one had a verbal offer before the role was put on hold. Ask for timelines at each step.

How to prepare for a Saronic interview

  1. Choose one project for the 15 to 20 minute presentation and rehearse it with time for questions.
  2. Check that you meet the U.S. Person requirement before you apply; it is on every posting.
  3. Prepare a clear answer to why you want to build for defence.
  4. Revise the parts of an autonomous system and how they fail.
  5. Ask for the timeline at every step and keep other processes going; waits of one to two months are reported.
  6. Expect an on-site role, most likely in Austin, and ask about travel if you apply for forward deployed roles.

This guide covers Saronic's engineering hiring, including software and forward deployed engineers. Production and shipyard roles have their own group interviews and skills tests. For management and leadership roles the loop is similar but the bar shifts to people, delivery and strategy, so pair it with the leadership interview prep hub. The bar for your exact role comes from the role-by-role guides, and the prep that actually transfers is spoken, so run a mock interview before the real one.
