Roblox interview questions, from the assessment games to the values round.
Updated · Sources at the end
Roblox runs the platform where millions of people play games that other users build, and it writes the engine, the servers and the tools underneath them. Its hiring has one step you will not meet anywhere else. Students and new graduates start with what Roblox calls the Roblox assessment, and it says outright that the assessment is your first interview. You play short games built on Roblox, Robots and Factories, answer a set of workplace scenarios, and for technical roles take a coding test and a block-coding game called Outpost: Mars.
Experienced engineers usually go through a more familiar loop, though one Blind thread is about being sent the games for a mid-level (IC3) role: a call, a coding or design screen, and a day of interviews that ends with a values conversation and a hiring committee. Roblox posts a base pay range in every US ad and asks almost everyone to work from the San Mateo office three days a week.

Who Roblox hires
Roblox had 127 million daily users on average in 2025, $4.9 billion of revenue and $6.8 billion of bookings. At the end of 2025 it had more than 2,300 people in product and engineering, about 75% of its staff, and just over 200 employees outside the US. On 16 October 2026 its job board listed 261 openings, 235 of them in San Mateo. About 180 were engineering, data and science jobs, and 117 had Software Engineer in the title. About 20 were engine work in C++: rendering, geometry, replication, runtime and client performance on mobile and consoles. The rest cover backend infrastructure, storage, safety, ads, the economy, creator tools and machine learning. The games on Roblox are made by its creators, and on that day the board had no game designer or game artist openings; its four design jobs were product design. The 2027 early career and intern roles were posted on 5 August 2026.

Roblox runs two paths. What decides yours is whether you apply to an early career role.
Track · Early career
Interns, new graduates and PhD hires
The Roblox assessment comes first, in place of a CV screen. Candidates who pass report two technical interviews and a behavioural interview. Interns and new graduates rank the teams they want and are matched a few weeks before they start.
Track · Experienced
Software engineer and above
A call with a recruiter or the hiring manager, a coding screen (system design or a take-home for senior roles, Roblox says), then interviews with the team, the manager and senior leaders, a creative problem-solving and values interview, and a hiring committee review.
What is the Roblox interview process?
Roblox describes the early career assessment on its careers site, and it described the full engineering loop in a 2022 article. The rounds below follow those, with detail from candidate reports from 2023 to 2026, marked as reported. Expect the experienced loop to vary by team.
Roblox says early career applications go straight to the assessment, with no CV screen in front of it. You may remove your age and graduation dates from your CV. Every ad says Roblox may not sponsor some US visa categories, including future H-1B.
Problem-solving games built on Roblox (Robots and Factories), workplace scenarios that test decisions, and for technical roles a coding test plus Outpost: Mars, a block-coding game for algorithmic reasoning. Candidates report the coding test as two problems on CodeSignal. The section below goes through each part.
Early careerYour background, why Roblox and what you want next. Some candidates report meeting a hiring manager with open headcount at this step, with questions on recent projects.
ExperiencedRoblox says it is usually a coding exercise, with system design or a take-home for senior roles. Candidates report algorithm problems with follow-ups, and for some a design question in the first round.
ExperiencedCoding for early career candidates, by report two technical sessions and then a behavioural one. Experienced candidates meet teammates, the manager and senior leaders, with coding and system design. A leaderboard service is the design prompt candidates name most.
Roblox says this round checks whether you can think outside the box and make structure out of ambiguity, and how you fit its four values.
A committee decides on the interview notes. Early career hires rank the teams they want, from Infra and Engine to Search and Discovery, Foundation AI and Economy.
Roblox assessment: the games and how to take them
From Roblox and candidate reports, 2023 to 2026Roblox calls it the Roblox assessment and says it is your first interview for early career roles, from engineering to marketing and product. It grew out of Imbellus, a game-based testing company Roblox bought in 2020. You can take the parts in one sitting or spread them over a week, and you can ask for an extension. Roblox says it scores how you approach each game as well as the result, and replies within a few weeks once it has compared candidates.
- Play Kaiju Cats first: Roblox's free practice game uses the same controls and strategy as Robots and Factories. It is untimed and you can replay it, so learn the interface there and save your attention for the real thing.
- Robots: Candidates describe building robots from parts to cross rough terrain, with credit for building many different robots that reach the end. Try varied designs early and keep the ones that work; Roblox says it values more than one way to solve a problem.
- Factories: Candidates describe buying machines and materials and linking them into a production chain to make the most profit. Treat it like a graph: find the bottleneck, then spend where it raises output most.
- Workplace scenarios: A set of work situations where you choose what to do, reported at about 20 to 25 minutes. Choose the option that helps users and the team over the long run, in line with Roblox's values.
- Outpost: Mars and Coding Cookies: Outpost: Mars tests algorithmic reasoning with block coding. Coding Cookies, another free Roblox practice game, uses the same block interface, so play it until loops and conditions in blocks feel natural.
- The coding test: Candidates report two problems on CodeSignal at about medium difficulty. Practise arrays, hash maps, heaps and graph search with a timer.
- Spread it over the week: Each game part takes about 25 to 30 minutes. Do one part per sitting when you are fresh, and email assessments-support@roblox.com if something breaks.
Calibrd cannot rehearse the games, but it can grade your spoken answers for the values and behavioural rounds that follow.
The rest of the loop depends on your role. Pick it, or paste the posting, and Calibrd predicts the rounds and questions you are likely to get at Roblox.

Roblox has four values, the same since it was founded, and the values interview and the hiring manager use them.
- Respect the Community: community before company, company before team, team before individual
- We Are Responsible: owning the consequences of what you build, intended or not
- Take the Long View: setting the long-term direction first, even for short-term decisions
- Get Stuff Done: taking initiative and iterating toward the goal every day
- Structure in ambiguity: Roblox looks for people who go to first principles on an open problem

How to prepare for a Roblox interview
- Play Kaiju Cats and Coding Cookies before you open the real assessment.
- Take the assessment parts on different days within the week, each when you are rested.
- Practise medium algorithm problems on a timer, then add a follow-up that changes the constraints and solve that too.
- Prepare one story for each of Roblox's four values, with a number in each.
- Experienced engineers: practise a leaderboard design and one other real-time design, such as presence or matchmaking.
- Engine candidates: be ready to talk through C++ performance work on a phone or console you profiled yourself.
- Check the visa line in the ad before you apply; Roblox says it may not sponsor some US visas.
- Plan for three office days a week in San Mateo, Tuesday to Thursday, unless the ad says otherwise.
This guide covers Roblox's software engineering hiring, for interns, new graduates and experienced engineers, including engine roles in San Mateo. For management and leadership roles the loop is similar but the bar shifts to people, delivery and strategy, so pair it with the leadership interview prep hub. The bar for your exact role comes from the role-by-role guides, and the prep that actually transfers is spoken, so run a mock interview before the real one.
