Arm interview, from the HireVue to the two-hour final.

Updated · Sources at the end

Arm's first interview is usually a recorded HireVue. Graduate candidates report a mix of behavioural questions about why Arm and your projects, spoken technical questions on computer architecture, and two short coding questions, with about a week to complete it. The second stage is a longer interview with the team, which candidates describe as about two hours, part technical and part behavioural.

Arm designs processor architectures and CPU designs and licenses them to chipmakers. It is headquartered in Cambridge, listed on Nasdaq since September 2023 and majority owned by SoftBank. It reported record revenue of $4.92 billion for the fiscal year to March 2026, and employs more than 9,000 people. On 5 October 2026 its careers site listed 398 open roles.

01

Who Arm hires

Arm's software engineers build the ecosystem around its processors: firmware, operating systems, device drivers, compilers, performance tools and the libraries that run machine learning on Arm CPUs and accelerators. The graduate ads ask for C and C++ first, then Python, and value an understanding of how CPU and system architecture affect software performance. Arm says it has more than 650 graduates across 21 locations in 11 countries, and more than 440 interns across 23 locations. In the UK it hires graduates and interns in Cambridge, Manchester, Bristol and Sheffield. Its current early career ads also list Trondheim, Budapest and Galway in Europe, and Austin in the US.

Arm runs one published process for everyone: a first interview on HireVue or by phone, then deeper technical interviews with the team. What changes by track is the technical content. This guide is about the software and graduate tracks.

  • Track · Software

    Graduate software engineers

Firmware, operating systems, device drivers, compilers and embedded platforms, per Arm's graduate ads. The ads ask for C and C++, with assembly, Python and a CPU architecture (pipelines, caches, MMUs) as pluses.

  • Track · ML

    Graduate ML and ML software

Arm's Galway site hires graduate software engineers to enable machine learning on Arm devices, in compilers, drivers and inference runtimes, using C, C++ and Python. Candidates for the Graduate Machine Learning Engineer role report the same HireVue first round.

  • Track · Interns

    UK internships

One UK engineering intern application covers Manchester, Cambridge, Bristol and Sheffield, for 3, 6 or 12 months at £33,000 a year. It closes on 31 October 2026 and needs existing UK work rights.

  • Track · Hardware

    Hardware graduates

CPU, GPU, verification and implementation roles follow the same steps. Candidates report HireVue questions on RTL and computer architecture. This guide covers them only briefly.

Arm HireVue interview: what to expect

From Arm's own pages and candidate reports

Arm's first interview is a recorded HireVue for most graduate, intern and early career roles, and a phone call for some. Arm says it covers your motivations, interests and core technical skills. Candidates report about four to six recorded questions, with roughly 30 seconds to think and up to three minutes to answer each, and about a week to complete it.

  • Why Arm, and your projects: Reported as two or three questions on why you want to work at Arm and the experience on your CV. Prepare a two-minute answer on why Arm and on one project you can describe in detail.
  • Spoken technical questions: Reported on computer architecture for software and performance roles: caches, pipelining, cache coherency and the memory hierarchy. Practise explaining each in plain words, aloud, in under three minutes.
  • Two coding questions: A graduate engineer candidate reported two coding questions in the HireVue in April 2026, and an intern reported a short coding task in the middle. One prep site describes a timed coding part, typically in C. Candidates suggest choosing C or C++.
  • Retakes and timing: One intern reported up to about three retries per question. Treat the first attempt as the one that counts, and do it somewhere quiet with a working camera and microphone.

Calibrd's mock interview can rehearse the recorded answers aloud, with a clock. It cannot rehearse the timed coding questions, so practise short C problems separately.

04

What Arm screens for

Arm calls its behaviours the 10x Mindset, ten of them under two headings, One Arm and Accelerate Impact. These are the ones a graduate interview can test most directly.

  • Passion for the mission: caring about Arm's technology, products and customers
  • Challenge skillfully: disagreeing respectfully when something doesn't make sense, and backing yourself
  • Own it: being accountable for the outcome and bringing solutions without waiting for instructions
  • Be decisive in ambiguity and change: turning vague ideas into a concrete plan
  • Deliver as One Arm: understanding how your work connects to teams beyond your own

Arm interview questions

Candidate-reported themes

Candidates report these questions and themes from Arm graduate, intern and early career processes in the UK, Europe and the US, from 2025 to 2026. The practice questions are written in our own words, in the style candidates describe.

Behavioural & motivation

  • Why do you want to work at Arm, and why this team?Listening for: Specificity · Connection · Research
  • Walk me through a technical project from your CV in as much detail as you can.Listening for: The problem · Your part · Technical depth
  • Tell me about a time you disagreed with a decision on a project. What did you do?Listening for: The disagreement · How they raised it · The outcome
  • Tell me about a time you had to start work on something with a vague brief.Listening for: Clarifying it · The plan · Adjusting

Technical

  • Practice: a direct-mapped cache has 64 lines of 64 bytes and 32-bit addresses. Explain how an address splits into tag, index and offset, then describe a function that says whether an access hits and updates the cache on a miss.Caches and the memory hierarchy: Reported in HireVue and final rounds, 2026: cache behaviour, cache coherency, and in a graduate performance modelling final, coding whether an access hits in a direct-mapped cacheListening for: Address split · Hit and miss · The trade-off
  • Practice: in a classic five-stage pipeline, an instruction needs the result of the load just before it. What goes wrong, and how does the hardware deal with it?Pipelining: Reported in a US HireVue, April 2026: pipelining, caching and cache coherency among the technical questionsListening for: The stages · The hazard · The fix

How to prepare for an Arm interview

  1. Apply early: UK graduate and intern roles open in October 2026, and some ads say Arm reviews applications first come, first served.
  2. Prepare a two-minute answer on why Arm, tied to a part of its technology you actually care about.
  3. Pick one CV project and practise explaining it in detail aloud: the problem, your part, one design choice and how you tested it.
  4. Revise computer architecture: caches, pipelining, memory hierarchy and how code layout affects performance.
  5. Practise short C problems with pointers, arrays and strings, against a timer and without an IDE.
  6. Record yourself answering a few questions before the HireVue, so the format feels normal.

This guide covers Arm's graduate, intern and early career software hiring, mainly in the UK, with notes on the ML software and hardware tracks. For management and leadership roles the loop is similar but the bar shifts to people, delivery and strategy, so pair it with the leadership interview prep hub. The bar for your exact role comes from the role-by-role guides, and the prep that actually transfers is spoken, so run a mock interview before the real one.
