Meta interviews for London the way it interviews everywhere: a 45-minute technical screen, then an onsite of at least two coding rounds, two system or product design rounds and a behavioural round. Two things make the loop different from most. Since 2023 team matching happens before the offer, so an offer depends on a hiring manager choosing you. And the level is decided in the loop itself: the design and behavioural rounds carry the most weight, and a weak behavioural round can move an E5 candidate down to E4.
London is Meta's largest engineering hub outside the United States, which Meta itself said in 2022, with teams on Instagram, Reality Labs, Workplace and Ads & Business Products, and its office at King's Cross. The hub has shrunk since. Meta's UK company accounts show the average engineering team falling from 4,604 in 2023 to 4,334 in 2024 and total UK staff from 6,338 to 5,679, with £78.9 million of severance in 2023. In May 2026 Meta began cutting about 8,000 jobs worldwide and moving more than 7,000 people to new teams, and a group of UK staff is organising a union.

Facebook UK holds an A-rated sponsor licence for the Skilled Worker and Global Business Mobility visas, so candidates from outside the UK can be sponsored; the Skilled Worker route needs a salary of at least £41,700, well below Meta's entry-level pay.

- Team matching before the offer: After the onsite you talk with hiring managers from several teams. Candidates on Hacker News describe waits of months and, in one case, no offer after nine months in team matching; those accounts are from the US. Plan for the wait as a real possibility.
- How the level is decided: Coding decides whether you are hired; design and behavioural decide the level. HelloInterview puts it plainly for E5: the behavioural round alone can decide between E5 and E4. Prepare it as seriously as the coding.
- Make the behavioural round show scope: At E5, bring stories where you set direction across a team: a decision you drove, a trade-off you owned, a conflict you resolved. Say your part exactly.
- Keep your options open during matching: Tell your recruiter which product areas you would take, and keep other processes going. The offer only exists once a team says yes.
If you are coming from outside the UK, raise the visa on the recruiter call. Facebook UK is a licensed sponsor, but the move adds time to the start date.
