Tabby interview, and the code you will be asked to review.

Updated · Sources at the end

Tabby's engineering loop has one choice in it that most companies don't offer. Candidates on Glassdoor report that for the coding round you can pick Go and review a piece of existing code, or pick another language and do live coding. Go is what Tabby's backend runs on. The topics senior backend candidates list from their interviews are practical ones: database transactions, how a Go project is structured, and how money is stored in code. A system design round of about 90 minutes follows, then a team-fit interview, which is where most of the candidate complaints come from.

This guide goes through each round, the review checklist candidates' reports point to, and the problems people describe at the end of the process, so you can ask about them before you start.

Tabby started in the UAE in 2019 as a way to split a payment at checkout and moved its headquarters to Riyadh in 2023, when it said 80% of its customers were in Saudi Arabia. Its careers page lists offices in Riyadh, Dubai and Cairo and about 1,000 employees. In September 2026 it raised $233 million at a $6.5 billion valuation, and it reports 25 million registered users, 70,000 business partners and more than $18 billion in yearly transaction volume.

Who Tabby hires

Most of Tabby's engineering hiring is backend work in Go on microservices, with PostgreSQL, Redis, Kubernetes and Google Cloud, plus React and TypeScript on the web and Swift, Android and React Native on mobile. Senior and staff engineering roles are often fully remote on a B2B contract; the October 2026 Staff Engineer ads list Serbia, Poland, Armenia and Kazakhstan, a tax allowance of up to 20%, stock options, and relocation help to hubs in Armenia, Georgia, Serbia, Portugal and Spain. Saudi-based roles are on-site in Riyadh: infrastructure, DevOps and information security jobs that work with the Saudi Central Bank, some of which ask for spoken and written Arabic. Tabby also runs paid engineering internships in Saudi Arabia in several intakes a year. On 16 October 2026 its job board had 41 open roles, most of them outside engineering.

Before you apply, see how your resume reads to a hiring manager with a free resume review.

Where you would work changes the hiring more than the role does. Three routes show up in Tabby's ads and on its engineering page.

  • Track · Remote

    Remote and hub engineering

Backend, platform and staff roles hired across Europe and Central Asia on B2B contracts, with relocation to Tabby's hubs on offer. This is the loop most candidate reports describe: a recruiter call, a Go code review or live coding round, system design, and team fit.

  • Track · KSA

    On-site roles in Riyadh

Infrastructure, DevOps, security and compliance roles based in Saudi Arabia. The Senior DevOps ad asks for spoken and written Arabic and for experience talking to the Saudi Central Bank, and also asks for CVs in English because the recruiters do not speak Arabic.

  • Track · Intern

    Saudi engineering internships

Tabby's engineering page lists four steps: apply online, an assessment it calls a base knowledge check, an interview with a technical challenge, and an offer. Each track has its own team, job description and interview. The Fall 2026 tracks are filled and a winter intake is announced.

What is the Tabby interview process?

Tabby does not publish its engineering loop. The rounds below come from candidate reports on Glassdoor, seen in search snippets, and from Tabby's own job ads and recruiting posts. Glassdoor's average across 74 reports is about three weeks, and candidates who reach team matching describe it running longer.

01
Recruiter call
A short video call

Your background, the role and money. A Tabby talent partner wrote that candidates should be ready to discuss salary on the first call, that Tabby will share its range, and that it has set budgets it cannot exceed. If your number is above the range, expect the process to stop there.

02
Technical interview
About an hour with engineers

Candidates report standard Go questions, then either a code review in Go or live coding in another language of your choice. Senior backend candidates list database transactions, Go project structure, and money stored as floating-point numbers among the questions. The section below goes through how to take it.

03
System design
About 90 minutes

A design round reported as a separate second technical interview. Candidates don't name the prompts in what is visible, but Tabby's systems are payments, installments, credit and ledgers, so expect a problem where correctness of money matters as much as scale.

04
Team fit
With a hiring manager and a product manager

A conversation about your experience and how you work. One senior backend candidate was told after this round that they were not a good fit, got no specific feedback, and was then asked to interview with two more teams on the same day, six rounds in total.

05
Team matching and offer
Varies

Candidates describe the profile being passed to teams after positive technical feedback. At least one report describes no reply after that point. Ask your recruiter which team the role is for and what happens if that team passes.

06
Skills test and panel
A test and a group panel

Data scientist candidates report a skills test and a group panel, with advanced Python and basic probability and statistics questions.

Tabby code review interview: what to look for in the Go

A checklist from the topics candidates report

Candidates on Glassdoor, seen in search snippets, describe Tabby's first technical interview as some standard Go questions followed by a choice: review a piece of Go code, or do live coding in another language. Senior backend candidates list database transactions, Go project structure, and money stored as floating-point numbers among their interview topics. Nobody has shared the review code itself, so the list below is a checklist built from those topics and from what a payments codebase tends to get wrong. Work through the code in roughly this order.

  • Read the whole thing before you comment: Spend the first few minutes working out what the code is meant to do and saying it back to the interviewer. A review that starts with naming nits on line 3 and misses a lost payment on line 40 is the classic way to do badly here.
  • Check how money is stored: Look for float64 amounts, arithmetic on them, and comparisons with ==. Say what goes wrong (0.1 + 0.2 is not 0.3, and rounding drifts across installments) and propose integer minor units or a decimal type, with the currency kept next to the amount.
  • Follow every database transaction: Look for a read and a write that should be atomic but are not, a transaction with no defer tx.Rollback(), an ignored Commit error, and a call to an outside service while the transaction is open. Say which isolation or locking you would use and why.
  • Ask what happens when a request is retried: Payment code gets called twice: by a client retry, a queue redelivery or a timeout. Look for a charge or a write with no idempotency key or unique constraint, and suggest one.
  • Look at errors and context: Find ignored errors, errors logged and then swallowed, errors returned without wrapping (%w), and a context.Context that is not passed down to the database or HTTP calls, so timeouts never reach them.
  • Look for concurrency problems: Check for a map written from several goroutines without a lock, goroutines that can block forever on a channel, and work started in a goroutine whose error nobody reads.
  • Comment on structure last: Once correctness is covered, say how you would organise it: business logic out of the handler, storage behind a small interface defined where it is used, and how that makes the code testable. Senior backend candidates list project structure as a topic, so keep a few minutes for it.
  • Rank what you found: Finish by sorting your comments into what you would block the merge for, what you would fix soon, and what is style. It shows the judgment the round is really about, and it is the summary the interviewer will remember.

If you pick a language other than Go, candidates report live coding instead of the review. Ask your recruiter which one you will get and how long you have.

The rest of the loop depends on your role. Pick it, or paste the posting, and Calibrd predicts the rounds and questions you are likely to get at Tabby.

Pay

Tabby's engineering ads do not publish pay, so there are no reliable salary bands to show here. The October 2026 remote Staff Engineer ads list a B2B contract, a tax allowance of up to 20%, 22 paid leave days and stock options; the only salaries Tabby publishes are for customer service roles. A Tabby talent partner wrote that it shares its range on the first call, so ask then. Calibrd benchmarks the pay on any posting you scan against its level and location.

How to prepare for a Tabby interview

  1. Decide before the recruiter call whether you will take the Go code review or live coding in another language, and ask which applies to your role.
  2. Have a salary number ready for the first call. Tabby says it shares its range then and does not go above its budget.
  3. Practise reviewing Go out loud: take a small service, plant a float money bug, a missing rollback and an ignored error, and time yourself finding and ranking them.
  4. Revise database transactions in Go: defer tx.Rollback(), row locking, isolation levels, and keeping outside calls out of an open transaction.
  5. Prepare one 90-minute payments design end to end, covering idempotency, retries, scheduling and reconciliation.
  6. Prepare stories with numbers for Tabby's values, especially owning an outcome after launch and moving fast without breaking payments.
  7. Ask early which team the role is for and what happens if team matching takes longer, since candidates report extra team rounds and delays at this stage.
  8. Check the ad's location line. Remote roles are B2B contracts with relocation to the hubs; Riyadh roles are on-site and some ask for Arabic.

This guide covers Tabby's software engineering hiring, its Riyadh-based infrastructure roles and internships, and what data science candidates report.
