Coveo interview, and the code you review before you talk.

Updated · Sources at the end

Coveo's technical step is usually a take-home rather than a whiteboard: Coveo's own R&D managers describe a 2 to 5 hour exercise that is either a code problem or a prepared code review, to be treated as a real production situation, followed by a 90-minute discussion with two interviewers about what you did. One listed red flag is being unable to debug. The form varies by team: other candidates had a technical question to explain without code, a live LeetCode medium, or a longer challenge. Coveo's own page lists five steps and says the process varies by team, role and seniority.

Coveo says its process varies by team, role and seniority. Its technical step takes one of two main forms; candidates also report older variants.

  • Track · Take-home

A code problem or a code review

Coveo's R&D managers, in February 2026: a take-home of 2 to 5 hours that is either a code problem or a prepared code review, adapted to the role (backend, frontend, ML, DevOps), then a 90-minute discussion with two interviewers about your solution or review.

  • Track · Live

    Explanation or live coding

Other loops ran a technical question live instead: explained without code in 2021 (Trapping Rain Water), solved live as a LeetCode medium in Montreal in 2023, with complexity questions.

What is the Coveo interview process?

Coveo's interview journey page names five steps and says they vary by team, role and seniority. The third is the technical one, described in detail by its R&D managers in 2026.

A call with a recruiter

Candidates describe it as the first step.

02
Take-home challenge and/or interview with future collaborators
2 to 5 hours, then 90 minutes with two interviewers

Coveo's step 3. February 2026: either a code problem or a prepared code review, adapted to the role, treated as a real production situation, then a 90-minute discussion of the solution or review. One undated report describes four hours reviewing a code sample, then 1.5 hours explaining the findings and fixing bugs introduced across Git branches.

03
Technical question, in some loops
Explained or coded live

October 2021: 30 minutes on past experience, then 30 minutes explaining a solution without code (Trapping Rain Water). Montreal, 2023: a LeetCode medium solved live, with pointer and complexity questions.

Team and final conversations

A London candidate in December 2023 had a relaxed, partly technical interview after a two-week coding challenge, with a Slack channel for questions during it.

Coveo technical challenge: the take-home and the code review

Coveo's R&D managers, February 2026

Coveo's R&D managers describe the challenge as a take-home of 2 to 5 hours, either a code problem or a prepared code review, adapted to the role and treated as a real production situation. A 90-minute discussion with two interviewers follows. Here is how to prepare for each form.

  • If it's a code problem: Write it as you would for production: clear structure, tests, error handling, and a short README with your trade-offs.
  • If it's a code review: Rank your findings by risk: correctness, concurrency and error handling before naming and style. Note a fix for each.
  • Debugging: Being unable to debug is a red flag. Practise finding a bug from a failing test and a git diff, out loud.
  • The 90-minute discussion: Be ready to defend each choice and to change the code live if asked.

Coveo says the process varies by team. Ask your recruiter which form your challenge takes.

The rest of the loop depends on your role. Pick it, or paste the posting, and Calibrd predicts the rounds and questions you are likely to get at Coveo.

Other Coveo formats candidates report

Candidate reports, 2018 to 2023

Not every Coveo loop uses the take-home. Candidates report a technical question explained without code, live LeetCode, and longer challenges, depending on team and year.

  • Explain, don't code (2021): 30 minutes on past experience, then a question explained without writing code: Trapping Rain Water, with LeetCode 85 and 904 named in other reports.
  • Live LeetCode (Montreal, 2023): A medium problem solved live, with questions on pointers and time and space complexity, plus past projects.
  • Two-week challenge (London, 2023): A coding challenge over two weeks with a Slack channel for questions, then a relaxed, partly technical interview.
  • Build-it take-home (2018): An open-ended end-to-end build, discussed in person. That loop also had a personality and IQ test, which cannot be rehearsed.

The 2018 and 2023 reports state their interview dates; formats may have changed since.

How to prepare for a Coveo interview

  1. Ask the recruiter whether your challenge is a code problem or a code review.
  2. For a code problem, write tests and a short README explaining your trade-offs.
  3. For a code review, rank findings by risk and write a fix for each.
  4. Practise debugging a failing test with git diff, out loud.
  5. Prepare to defend every choice for 90 minutes with two engineers.
  6. Review one classic problem (Trapping Rain Water) to explain without code.

This guide covers Coveo's developer hiring. The technical challenge comes from Coveo's own managers (2026) and its interview journey page; the other formats come from dated candidate reports, marked so. For management and leadership roles the loop is similar but the bar shifts to people, delivery and strategy, so pair it with the leadership interview prep hub. The bar for your exact role comes from the role-by-role guides, and the prep that actually transfers is spoken, so run a mock interview before the real one.
