Snowflake interview, and the talk about your own work.

Updated · Sources at the end

Snowflake's engineering loop ends in a panel of three to five one-hour interviews, and two of its parts are unusual. Depending on your level and role, the panel may include a 30-minute Tech Talk, a presentation on a project you have already built, given to engineers from the team. It also includes collaboration interviews, alongside the technical, expertise, system design and behavioural ones. Snowflake says the whole process takes two to four weeks, that you may not use AI in coding interviews, and that one coding interview is held in person.

Who Snowflake hires

Snowflake sells a data cloud, so much of its engineering is databases, query processing, distributed systems and the AI features built on them. On 31 October 2026 its job board listed 366 open roles: 116 in Engineering, 54 in Sales and 49 in Solution Engineering, mostly in Menlo Park and Bellevue. Europe had 62. Engineering in Europe sits in Warsaw, Zurich and Berlin; London's 22 roles are in sales and solution engineering, not engineering. Snowflake's Berlin ads say the office language is English.

Snowflake publishes one process for engineering. Candidate reports show how the early stages vary by level and place.

A screen, technical interviews, then the panel. interviewing.io describes a two-hour phone screen combining coding and system design; a candidate in Canada in 2025 had a 90-minute online assessment first.

  • Track · Senior

    Senior, Staff and Principal

The panel is where the Tech Talk appears, depending on level and role. interviewing.io describes the presentation as one of the onsite interviews for mid-level and senior engineers.

  • Track · Europe

    Warsaw, Zurich and Berlin

Engineering roles in Europe follow the same process. A Berlin candidate in 2025 started with an online assessment of three coding questions. Snowflake's European engineering ads mostly state no pay.

  • Track · Solutions

    Solution engineering

The largest hiring family after engineering and sales, and most of London's roles. The interview loop for these roles is not published, and this guide does not cover it in depth.

02

What is the Snowflake interview process?

Snowflake's Get Hired page describes four stages for engineering roles, taking two to four weeks: a 30-minute screen, technical interviews of 60 minutes each, a panel of three to five 60-minute interviews, and a decision, usually within a few days. It says it holds both virtual and in-person interviews.

01
Initial screen
30 minutes

Your background and the role.

02
Technical interviews
60 minutes each

Coding and, at some levels, system design. interviewing.io describes a two-hour screen on CoderPad combining both, with examples such as aggregating a log file efficiently and storing timestamped events for fast retrieval.

03
Online assessment
Reported, before the technical interviews

A candidate in Canada in 2025 had 90 minutes for two algorithm questions and SQL logic puzzles; a Berlin candidate had three coding questions.

04
Panel
Three to five interviews of 60 minutes

Snowflake lists technical, expertise, system design, behavioural and collaboration interviews. System design, interviewing.io says, centres on data systems and database design.

05
Tech Talk
30 minutes, inside the panel

A presentation of a past project to engineers from the team, followed by their questions.

The Snowflake Tech Talk: how to prepare it

From Snowflake's process page and interviewing.io

The Tech Talk is a 30-minute presentation in Snowflake's panel, included depending on your level and role. You present a project you have already built to engineers from the team, and they ask about it. Snowflake does not publish a rubric; the advice below is ours, built on what the round is.

  • Ask your recruiter whether you have one: Snowflake says the Tech Talk may be included depending on level and role. Ask early, and ask how long you present and how long the questions take.
  • Pick a project with real design decisions: Choose work where you made the important calls and can explain the alternatives. Data systems, performance or reliability work suits Snowflake's teams best.
  • Structure it as problem, design, results, hindsight: Open with why the project mattered, show the architecture, give results with numbers, and end with what you would change. Keep slides simple.
  • Leave time for questions: The engineers will probe your choices. Plan to finish speaking with time to spare, and treat questions as the main event.
  • Prepare for the hard questions: List the three weakest points of your design and prepare an honest answer to each: why you chose it, and what you would do now.
  • Keep it shareable: Present a past project without confidential detail. Describe the problem and design in general terms if you need to.
  • Rehearse aloud with a timer: Run it twice to a friend who interrupts with questions, and cut until it fits.

No first-hand engineer report describes the collaboration interview in detail. Expect questions about working across teams and handling disagreement, and ask your recruiter who will be in that interview.

The rest of the loop depends on your role. Pick it, or paste the posting, and Calibrd predicts the rounds and questions you are likely to get at Snowflake.

What Snowflake screens for

Snowflake's process page lists the interview types rather than values. What it states plainly is how the interviews are run.

  • Collaboration: its own interview type in the panel
  • Expertise: a panel interview on your specialism, coding, system design or both
  • Explaining your own work: the Tech Talk, for some levels and roles
  • No AI: not in written assessments, take-home projects, technical exercises or coding interviews
  • One coding interview in person, which Snowflake says is for fairness

Candidate-reported themes

Few candidates have described the collaboration interview in detail, so the behavioural questions below are written for what Snowflake names in its panel. The technical themes come from Snowflake's process page and candidate reports.

How to prepare for a Snowflake interview

  1. Ask your recruiter whether your panel includes a Tech Talk, and how it is split between talk and questions.
  2. Choose one past project with real design decisions and build a 20-minute talk around it.
  3. Practise coding and system design together, as interviewing.io describes a combined two-hour screen.
  4. Prepare data systems design: ingestion, storage, query, replication and failure.
  5. Revise database internals if the ad asks for them: query compilers, relational algebra, incremental view maintenance.
  6. Prepare stories about working across teams and changing your design after a challenge.
  7. Plan for one coding interview in person, and practise without any AI assistant.
  8. Read the pay range in the exact ad you apply to; Snowflake's ranges vary within a title.

This guide covers Snowflake's engineering hiring in the US and Europe. It names solution engineering and product roles but does not cover their interviews in depth. For management and leadership roles the loop is similar but the bar shifts to people, delivery and strategy, so pair it with the leadership interview prep hub. The bar for your exact role comes from the role-by-role guides, and the prep that actually transfers is spoken, so run a mock interview before the real one.
