Voodoo interview, and the case that decides it.
Updated · Sources at the end
Voodoo makes and publishes mobile games, among them Mob Control, Paper.io 2 and Marble Sort, and it owns BeReal. Its careers page describes the same shape for every job: a conversation with a recruiter or the hiring manager, a case study or skill test, a discussion of your case with the hiring team, and a meeting with senior leadership. The case is the centre of the process. For its creative team Voodoo goes further: there is no CV, and your application is a short vertical video ad for one of its games.

Who Voodoo hires
On 31 October 2026 Voodoo's job board listed 103 open roles: 51 in Gaming, 26 in Growth, 12 in Engineering and Data and 9 in Corporate. Sixty-nine were based in Paris, with smaller groups in Istanbul, Beijing, Barcelona and Warsaw. Many live-game roles are remote, some within Central European time plus or minus three hours, and Paris roles that are hybrid ask for three office days a week. Most ads ask for fluent English with French as a plus; some corporate and legal roles require French. BeReal hires on its own board, mostly engineers.

The frame is the same everywhere; the case depends on the job. The examples below are what candidates report, except the creative process, which Voodoo publishes.
Track · Game design
Game and level design
Candidates report a case study of about a week: analysing a game and its KPIs, proposing new features and level design, then presenting it to the team and answering questions from VPs.
Track · Publishing
Publishing and product
Candidates report cases such as inventing the follow-up to a successful Voodoo game, a three-exercise case for publishing associates, and a case of about four hours for product strategists.
Track · Creative
Creative team
Marketing developers, marketing artists and playable ads developers apply with a 15-to-30-second 9:16 ad for Marble Sort, Mob Control, Paper.io 2 or Castle Clashers. Voodoo says it reviews it within 72 hours, then two meetings lead to an offer.
Track · Engineering
Engineering and data
Voodoo's page says every process includes a case or skill test, but it does not describe the engineering one, and candidates report little. Ask the recruiter whether it is a take-home or a live exercise.
Track · BeReal
BeReal
BeReal lists its roles on its own board, 27 on 31 October 2026, mostly in Paris and mostly engineering. Its ads carry the same benefits as Voodoo's; whether its interview differs is not published.
What is the Voodoo interview process?
Voodoo's careers page lists four steps: speak with a recruiter or the hiring manager, complete a case study or skill test, discuss your case with the hiring team, and meet senior leadership. It calls case studies and skill tests essential in all its processes. Candidates on Glassdoor report the whole process taking about 25 days on average.
Your background, the role and why Voodoo.
The task depends on the role: a game or level design case, a publishing or product case, a technical test or, for the creative team, a video ad. Candidates report cases from a few hours to a week.
You present your case and defend it. Voodoo describes it as a discussion of your case with the team you would join.
Voodoo's last step for every role. Game design candidates report questions from VPs.
Pick one of four Voodoo games and make an ad for it. Voodoo says it evaluates the video in less than 72 hours.
Creative teamThe Voodoo case study: how to take it
From Voodoo's process and candidate reportsEvery Voodoo process includes a case study or skill test, and a round to discuss it with the team. Candidates report cases from about four hours to a week depending on the role, built around Voodoo's own games. The advice below is ours, based on what the cases ask.
- Play the game before you write a word: The cases and the creative test use Voodoo's own titles. Play the one in the brief for long enough to reach the levels and moments you will write about.
- Ask how long you have and what it should look like: Reported cases range from a few hours to a week. Ask the recruiter for the expected time and format, so you don't spend a week on a four-hour task.
- Lead with the recommendation: Open with what you would do and why, then the analysis. The discussion round goes faster when the team knows your answer first.
- Put a number on everything: Tie each idea to a metric a mobile game lives by, such as retention, session length, cost per install or revenue per user, and say how you would test it.
- Choose a few ideas and go deep: Three well-argued changes beat ten bullet points. Show how you would prioritise them.
- Prepare for the defence: List the weakest assumption in your case and an honest answer to it. The case discussion is built to find it.
- Creative team: make the first three seconds count: Voodoo asks for a 9:16 ad of 15 to 30 seconds for one of four games. Start with the gameplay hook, keep it readable without sound, and send it: Voodoo says it replies within 72 hours.
Voodoo publishes the creative test in full but not the other cases. One candidate's marketing developer test, built on Mob Control, is public on GitHub and says they had five days.
The rest of the loop depends on your role. Pick it, or paste the posting, and Calibrd predicts the rounds and questions you are likely to get at Voodoo.

This guide covers Voodoo's hiring across game design, publishing, creative and engineering, and notes BeReal. The engineering test is the least documented part. For management and leadership roles the loop is similar but the bar shifts to people, delivery and strategy, so pair it with the leadership interview prep hub. The bar for your exact role comes from the role-by-role guides, and the prep that actually transfers is spoken, so run a mock interview before the real one.
